Martha G. Welch, MD

Martha G. Welch MD is a practicing psychiatrist and researcher specializing in child development and parent-child bonding, and a recognized international authority on improved child development and childhood disorders. She is listed in the 1999-2000 edition of Who’s Who of American Women. She is the pioneer of the Welch Method, a therapy she conceived over twenty-seven years ago. The Welch Method employs a technique Dr. Welch calls Regulatory Bonding, that is used in the treatment of a wide range of childhood behavior disorders. Through speaking, writing, teaching, consulting, private practice, and being a mother, Dr. Welch has taught the Welch Method to families and health professionals, in the United States and throughout the world, both as a therapy, as a way to restore dysfunctional relationships and as a way of life.

Dr. Welch is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She received her Medical Degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and her post-graduate training in both General and Child Psychiatry at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Welch currently serves as Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, where she has received a grant to investigate the neuroradiologic and neurophysiologic brain state changes created by mother and child interaction.

In 1977 Dr. Welch founded The Mothering Center, located in Greenwich, CT, which teaches the Welch Method to parents and professionals from all over the world. Dr. Welch is Clinical Director of The Martha Welch Centers for Family Treatment, with treatment facilities in New York City, Greenwich, CT, and Chautauqua, NY.
