The Martha Welch Centers, located in New York City provides comprehensive intensive family treatment therapy and training for families with children suffering from behavioral and developmental disorders. The Center’s therapeutic technique is referred to as Welch Method Regulatory Bonding, or more recently as Prolonged Parent Child Embrace (PPCE) therapy. The therapy was pioneered by Dr. Martha G. Welch MD in the early 1970’s while working with autistic patients at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. It is based upon the assumption that child behavioral disorders inherently stem from a stress-related physiological dysregulation. PPCE therapy teaches the family to overcome the dysregulating effects of stress on the child. Over time, it enables the child to accept his family’s help and makes it possible for the child to control his or her own behavior. |
